People who know Resin Vogel would generally describe him as being smelly, having poor taste in clothes or just plainly calling him “That damn hobo.” The most common brand however is a simple, three letter word: Odd. Resin Vogel is a 34 year old current vagabond that once hailed from a small yet rich town called Canter in Ostland. Being essentially a collection of estates and some fertile land next to a trade highway, Canter knew security and wealth in its own right, and house Vogel was firmly in place to take advantage of the trade economy.
As the eldest son of a family of 5, Resin felt the weight of expectations placed on his shoulders from an early age. A combination of resentment of this, plus access to some small amount of education and competition with his younger brother, Hasselhoff Vogel, led to him valuing the strength of the individual over societal obligations. Still, he accepted his life as better than many alternatives, and at the age of 23 even accepted an arranged marriage with another family of merchants, House Dryden. This acceptance was largely due to fortune’s grace, however, as Suranna Dryden (his betrothed) had previously met Resin and formed a bond off the record.
Their wedding night was a big occasion, with the majority of both families in attendance as well as some merchants interested in having a hand in shaping the economic future of the local region. This was a time for deals and celebration both. However, Hasselhoff Vogel held jealously (and hemoglobin) in his heart, and had hatched a plan to remove Resin from his position in the family. Hasselhoff schemed with the lord of House Dryden to discredit Resin with a scandal, gaining support in exchange of promises of land and trade contracts. And so with a few bribes and a pair of stolen silk pantaloons, Hasselhoff created a scandal that blossomed no sooner than the ring had been placed on Resin’s hand.
Resin faced the claims of infidelity with an attempt to reason, standing for what he had. But the crowd could not be placated, and the trap snapped shut. Because such a scandal happened in front of so many eyes, it was decided that Resin be exiled, stripped of his wealth and his home. Hasselhoff himself stepped up and, with a secret and wicked grin, severed Resin’s finger which held the wedding band. As for Suranna Dryden, her protests were muted by uncertainty and loyalty to her father.
And so, feeling rejected by friends and family alike, Resin took the clothes on his back, a spare dagger and a fistful of gold crowns and set off to walk the earth for a time. Needing something to sustain his travels, he declared himself a Vagabond and as years passed became adequate in skills of gossip, navigation, first aid and even dancing as a new profession. Eventually he learned of a caravan of performers travelling to Nuln and, hearing that there would be a renowned fortune teller and sensing something… different, he decided that this would be his path.
